In maintaining and extending a specific group of postdoctoral research fellowships intended for excellent researchers, the VUB demonstrates its commitment to pioneering research initiated and carried forward by the curiosity of the individual research worker. The availability of such research fellowships is intended not only to encourage research in general but also to widen the opportunities for a university career in research and to enable the university to implement a staffing policy to this end.
Within this framework, applications are invited for a full time Research Fellow, to be appointed on grounds of personal excellence and in line with topics given priority in the University’s research policy.
Starting date: 1 October 2010.
Terms: The research fellow's work will be primarily research, with a maximum of 120 teaching hours per year (i.e. 60 teaching hours per semester).
Contract duration: 5 years, renewable. The Research Fellowships were set up with a period of 10 years’ research in mind: 5 years initially and a further 5 years after positive evaluation.

Requirements: An excellent research record on the basis of international peer review is the most important selection criterium. As a formal minimum requirement, applicants must a hold a Ph.D. awarded on the basis of an original thesis. The call is aimed at researchers whose expertise is internationally recognized after three or more full years of postdoc experience.

- Applicants are requested to use the Research Council's Application Form or obtained from the Research & Development Dept. (R&D, tel. 32-(0)2-629.21.08). The relevant regulations may be obtained from the same source.
- The application should be sent to the Rector of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Brussel. A copy of the application should be submitted at the same time to the Vicerector responsible for Research, via the R&D department.
Deadline: Applications should be sent to arrive at the Rector's office at the latest on Monday 25 January 2010, before 17:00 local time.
